I made this violin, Opus 380, in 2007, but fortunately it was still in my shop when I finally understood an important acoustical relationship specific to violins. Following this way of understanding violins, I then reworked every violin in the shop. Those are what I am now posting on these pages for your pleasure. As for these new recordings, the "mic"ing was a bit further away than those I made previously because the sound at closer range created too much distortion in my recording equipment.
I have an excellent music room in my shop which has a very warm yet live sound, so what you hear in the new sound samples is the effect of the violin in that room. Mauricio Aguiar has my gratitude for his skill at playing these samples on instruments each of slightly differing string lengths, due to the fact that the string length on the violins of my own design is slightly smaller as those instruments are intended for smaller statured players who have smaller hands and fingers.
Realizing the problems involved in making the violin even slightly smaller, naturally, I was after as much resonance and depth of tone as well as a scintillating brilliance in these violins. Those who have played on these smaller sized violins are astonished by how easy they feel to play and by the power and breadth of sound they produce. Indeed, my Opus 405, shown on the Violins for Sale 3, is a 7/8ths violins, yet you would hardly know it.
